The departmental directorate of the IPN Department of Physics Education was reappointed on January 15, 2024. The position of Deputy Department Director is now held by Prof. Dr. Melanie Keller, a researcher who has already gained a great deal of experience working at the IPN in the past.

She joined the institute in 2016 after completing her doctorate at the University of Duisburg-Essen and further positions at the University of Konstanz and the University of Salzburg. In 2020, Melanie became head of the transdisciplinary research center for visual science communication KielSCN, which is jointly founded by Kiel University, the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design and the IPN

Commenting on her new role as Deputy Head of Department, Melanie Keller herself says: "I am looking forward to the new challenges that lie ahead. My research interests here at the IPN fit very well with the experience I have gained during my career at various locations and during my seven years here at the IPN. For me, science communication is part of science education. In this sense, I plan to advance research in the field of science communication at the IPN."
