Japanese Science Olympiad Committee Delegation at the IPN for a Joint Meeting

What is the best way to organize STEM Olympiads for students? How can they effectively contribute to fostering participants and how are they anchored in the national educational landscape? These and other questions were discussed by a delegation from the Japan Science Olympiad Committee (JSOC) during their visit to the IPN with the competition directors of the Science Olympiads, the nationwide mathematics and computer science competitions and the German Earth Science Olympiad.

The aim of the two-day conference was a targeted exchange of experiences with structures, processes and activities relating to the competitions in the respective countries. The IPN also presented current research work on the Science Olympiads organized by the institute.

The contributions offered very different perspectives on the topic of STEM Olympiads and some exciting insights, such as how the national competitions in Japan are promoted by prominent manga characters.
